Changing Default Programs That Files Open In

If you need to open a file with a different program regularly, consider changing the default program associated with that file type.


1. Go to the Windows search by in the bottom left of the screen. Keyboard shortcut Windows key + S



2. Search "Default" and click the "Default apps" tile.



3. Click "Choose default apps by file type." 



4. Scroll down until you see the file extension you're working with e.g., pdf. Choose the application you want the file to open in. 




Another method:


Right-click the file you want to open and then click Properties




You will see the Properties menu, click Change next to Opens with: 




If the application you want is not in the list, click Look for another app on this PC, you may have to click More apps first



Find the application you want:




Double-click the application itself



The default application for whatever the file type you're trying to open is now set to the new application.
